Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattress β 2 Years Old
The Cover
The cover and border panel showing the Puffy branding
The cover is in excellent condition β no pilling, no staining, no stretching. The stitching around the border panel is still tight. The Puffy logo and branding on the side look like they did when it was new. This is what you want to see after 2 years. The cover fabric has held up really well.
Body Impressions & Sagging
Looking at this mattress, it's completely flat. I don't see any body impressions where someone was sleeping. I don't see any sagging in the middle or along the edges.
No visible wear at all. The surface is completely flat and even. After 2 years of nightly use, this tells me the foam layers haven't broken down yet. The pocketed coils underneath are still providing proper support. This mattress has a lot of life left in it.
How It Feels
The Puffy Lux Hybrid has a nice balance of cushioning on top with solid support underneath. When I lay on my side, I can feel the foam conforming to my shoulders and hips, but I'm not sinking down too far because the coils are pushing back. This is the advantage of a hybrid β you get pressure relief from the foam and support from the coils.
Edge Support
Testing the edge support by sitting on the side of the mattress
The edge support on this mattress is excellent. When I sit on the edge, I'm barely sinking down at all. That's because Puffy uses reinforced coils around the perimeter β you can see them when I cut the mattress open. These thicker coils prevent that "roll off" feeling you get with some all-foam mattresses. After 2 years, the edge coils are still firm and doing their job.
The Pocketed Coil System
The pocketed coil layer exposed β notice the thicker edge support coils
This is what separates a hybrid from an all-foam mattress. Underneath the foam layers, there's a full layer of individually wrapped pocketed coils. Each coil moves independently, which helps with motion isolation β if your partner tosses and turns, you feel it less.
The coil system is in excellent condition. Every coil I tested is still firm and springy β no broken or collapsed coils anywhere. The fabric pockets holding each coil are still intact. The edge support coils are noticeably thicker than the ones in the middle, which is why the edges hold up so well. This is quality construction.
Why Hybrids Last Longer
In my experience tearing open mattresses, hybrids tend to outlast all-foam mattresses. The coils don't really break down the way foam does. What usually fails first is the foam comfort layer on top β it softens over time. But the coil system underneath can last 15-20 years if it's built right.
This Puffy Lux Hybrid has quality coils. I'd expect the foam on top to soften before these coils ever give out.
The Foam Layers
Testing the foam layers by pushing on them β still bouncing back quickly
The foam layers exposed after cutting open the cover
On top of the coils, there are several layers of foam. This is what you actually feel when you lay on the mattress.
Comfort Layer (Top)
The top layer is Puffy's proprietary foam β similar to memory foam but designed to be more responsive. When I push on it and let go, it bounces back quickly. That tells me it hasn't broken down yet.
Transition Layer (Middle)
Below the comfort layer is a transition foam that bridges the gap between the soft top and the coils below. This prevents you from feeling the coils directly.
All the foam layers are still resilient and bouncing back. No permanent indentations. No breakdown. At 2 years old, this is exactly what you want to see. The foam hasn't started to soften yet, which means this mattress still feels close to how it did when it was new.
Fiberglass Check
Puffy does not use fiberglass in their mattresses. They use a non-fiberglass fire barrier to meet federal flame retardant requirements.
No Fiberglass
Puffy Lux Hybrid does not contain fiberglass.
This is important because a lot of budget mattresses use fiberglass fire socks that can disintegrate and spread fiberglass particles everywhere. We've picked up mattresses where the owner was itching constantly because fiberglass got out of the cover. Puffy avoids this problem entirely.
Who This Mattress Is For
Good For
- People who want foam feel with coil support
- Hot sleepers (coils allow airflow)
- Couples (good motion isolation + edge support)
- Those who sit on the edge of the bed often
- People who want a mattress that lasts
- Medium to medium-firm preference
Probably Not For
- People who want a very firm mattress
- Those who prefer the deep "hug" of memory foam
- Budget shoppers (this is mid-to-premium priced)
- People who need to move their mattress often (it's heavy)
The owner of this mattress loved it. They only got rid of it because they were downsizing and couldn't fit a King in their new place. They told me they're considering buying another Puffy Lux Hybrid in a smaller size β that's a good endorsement.
This is a quality mattress. After tearing open thousands of mattresses, I can tell when a company is using good materials versus cutting corners. Puffy is using good materials here.
The pocketed coil system is solid β reinforced edges, quality coils, no signs of wear after 2 years. The foam layers are still resilient and bouncing back. The cover is holding up great. There's no fiberglass to worry about.
At 2 years old with nightly use, this mattress looks almost new. I'd expect it to last another 6-8 years easily, putting it at 8-10 years total. That's good longevity for a mattress in this price range.
If you're looking at hybrid mattresses in the $1,500-2,000 range, the Puffy Lux Hybrid is a solid choice. No red flags here β just quality construction throughout.
