Curbside or inside pickup; stairs and long carries cost extra. The total for your items is shown at the booking step before you confirm. Owned by the operator of this site.

Gwinnett County residential bulk item collection

destination not stated

'Gwinnett County's solid waste and recycling service includes collection of bulk items and white goods.' Five haulers collect 'in assigned service areas' — Red Oak Sanitation (North), Republic Services (East), Southern Sanitation (South), Waste Management (Northwest) and Waste Pro of Georgia (Southwest). The page does not state whether properties inside Gwinnett's incorporated cities are included.

Conditions and source

'Contact your hauler 48 hours prior to your pick-up day to schedule collection', or submit a request through the county's online bulk pickup form. Bulk items and white goods are covered by the base service fee, $24.14 per month or $289.68 for the year in 2026 and $25.01 per month or $300.12 for the year in 2027, with a reduced rate for residents aged 62 and over. Appliances must be emptied and have Freon removed and tagged by a qualified technician. Mattresses are not named individually; they fall under the generic bulk-item category.

Not confirmed: Eligibility is not published: the page does not say whether city properties are included in the county program.

Not confirmed: Mattresses are not named explicitly.

Not confirmed: No per-item charge, quantity limit or wrapping rule is published.

Not confirmed: No disposal outcome is published.

Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta mattress donation pickup

reuse

Donors inside the Furniture Bank's pickup area, which 'includes most of Cobb, Gwinnett, Fulton and DeKalb counties', confirmed by entering a zip code on the pickup request form.

Conditions and source

Mattresses and box springs are accepted in any condition. Specialty beds (bunk, loft, murphy, water beds), mattress toppers, futons, cribs, sleeper sofas and items over six feet tall are refused. Two scheduled pickup tiers are offered: a standard service described as free to low cost and a priority service at low to medium cost; neither handles large appliances or disassembly. Drivers decide acceptance at the door, and inside-the-home pickup requires prior arrangement.

Not confirmed: The pickup tiers are described only as 'Free - Low' and 'Low - Medium' cost; no dollar amounts are published.

Not confirmed: 'Most of ... Fulton' is not defined by zip code, so coverage of an individual Atlanta address is not guaranteed.

Roswell Transfer Station mattress drop-off

1810 Hembree Road, Alpharetta, GA 30009 · 10 miles away · destination not stated

Open to residents and non-residents for non-construction material: "As of July 1, 2025, the Roswell Transfer Station accepts non-construction materials from both residents and non-residents." The rate turns on residence: "Proof of residence within Roswell city limits is required to receive resident rates." Construction and demolition material is taken from Roswell residents only and is "currently not accepted from non-residents".

The last date published for this was Jul 1, 2025, so it has passed.

Conditions and source

The Non-Construction Waste Fee Schedule effective July 1, 2025 groups "Boxspring, Couch, Mattress" together, free to a Roswell resident and "$20 Each" to a non-resident. Bagged trash is free to residents and $3 per bag otherwise; lamps, rugs and vacuums free or $10 each; ordinary furniture free or $15 each. Hours are "Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m." at 1810 Hembree Road, Alpharetta, GA 30009. Not accepted: hazardous waste (anti-freeze, gasoline, lighter fluid, pesticides, propane tanks), yard waste (grass clippings, mulch, rocks, sand, tree limbs) and recyclables (appliances, cardboard, electronics, household batteries, lawn mowers, oil, metal, paint, tires). Roswell residents are directed to city household hazardous waste events and to the Roswell Recycling Center for those categories instead.

  • $0 — "Free" for a Roswell resident: the Non-Construction Waste Fee Schedule effective July 1, 2025 lists "Boxspring, Couch, Mattress" at a resident fee of Free and "Proof of residence within Roswell city limits is required to receive resident rates." Open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • $20 — "$20 Each" non-resident fee for "Boxspring, Couch, Mattress" under the same fee schedule effective July 1, 2025, since non-construction material has been accepted from non-residents as well as residents since July 1, 2025. A mattress and box spring would therefore be $40.00 for a household outside the Roswell city limits.

Not confirmed: The page does not state what form of proof of residence is accepted, nor any load limit on a resident's free drop-off.

Not confirmed: The page does not say what becomes of a mattress after drop-off, so the outcome is not established as recycling.

Not confirmed: No weekend hours are published.

Seminole Road Landfill — household self-haul

4203 Clevemont Road, Ellenwood, GA 30294 · 12 miles away · disposal

No residency rule is published on either the fee sheet or the bulky-item page; the department calls Seminole Road its "Public disposal facility" and offers it as a "Self-haul option for residents", while describing its Central, East and North transfer stations as commercial disposal sites. The animal crematory on the same fee sheet does distinguish DeKalb residents from non-residents, so the county knows how to write a residency rule and has not written one for the landfill gate.

Conditions and source

4203 Clevemont Road, Ellenwood, GA 30294, 404-687-4040. Open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Charging is by weight at the scale, not per item: municipal disposal is $95.00 a ton and the minimum scale fee is $48.00 for any material up to 999 pounds, so one mattress costs $48 unless it travels with a heavier load. Construction and demolition material, yard trimmings, trees, inert materials, industrial and commercial waste are all $95 a ton. Residential tires are $10 each and no commercial tires are taken; an appliance containing Freon is $48. Asbestos and large animals carry a $200 hole-preparation charge plus tonnage. The county's own bulky-item page points households here as the alternative to a fee-based curbside collection, noting "Pay-per-weight pricing" and that construction materials are accepted.

Not confirmed: The $48 minimum comes from the county's April 2026 fee sheet; the bulky-item page cites a gate minimum of $16.50 and $99.80 per ton in its dead-animal paragraph. The two are not reconciled anywhere on the county site.

Not confirmed: No mattress-specific rate is published, and nothing says whether bedding is recycled; a landfill gate implies disposal and no recovery is claimed.

6Donation options in Norcross

Most charities will not take a used mattress. These are the ones we checked, including the ones that say no.

  • The Salvation Army (satruck.org): accepted-items list includes 'Mattresses' and beds; also says local ordinances and need vary by location and to call 1-800-SA-TRUCK to confirm what a local center accepts. Source
  • Doesn’t take mattresses. Habitat for Humanity national ReStore guide: 'Mattresses and box springs are not accepted.' Source

Policies vary by branch. Call before you carry one over — we asked each of the big three directly: Goodwill, the Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity.

What Norcross itself says

What we established about this city in particular — including where it runs nothing of its own and residents have to look elsewhere.

  • Norcross buys collection for the whole city and allows exactly one bulky item a week, without ever saying whether a mattress is one. The city's sanitation page records that 'In 1988, Norcross converted from a city operated solid waste collection system to a privately operated system. The city offers refuse collection through a contractual agreement with Waste Management (formerly Advanced Disposal) for both residential and business collection', with residential garbage 'done once weekly at the curb', recycling weekly and yard waste on alternate weeks. On bulky items it states: 'Bulk Items are items that are too bulky to fit into the 95 gallon cart. Bulk items must be called in to the city and the contractor will collect the item on your normal scheduled collection day. This is limited to either one bulk household furniture item per week or up to 5 extra bags that will not fit in a trash cart per week, if scheduled at least before 3 p.m. the day prior to a customer's regularly scheduled pick-up day. Bulk items are household items only and do not include construction and demolition debris or automotive parts. Bulky items not normally accepted may be scheduled for pick-up by calling 678-495-0058 or online 24/7 through the SeeClickFix.' Two extra routes exist: 'Twice yearly Event Recycling provides Solid Waste customers opportunities to dispose of bulky items by taking them to the designated location', and back-door or side-yard pickup is provided to residential customers who are disabled, with medical certification required. Carts go out 'curbside the night before or by 6 a.m. on your collection day'. New or cancelled residential service goes through gga@norcrossga.net; missed pickups and bulk bookings through SeeClickFix or Waste Management at 678-495-0058. Public Works is at 345 Lively Avenue, Norcross GA 30071, which also hosts a glass recycling drop-off. Source Not confirmed: The weekly allowance is for 'one bulk household furniture item' and neither the city nor its contractor says on this page whether a mattress or box spring counts as one, so a Norcross resident cannot tell whether the free allowance covers their mattress. Not confirmed: If a mattress falls under 'Bulky items not normally accepted', the page gives a booking number but no fee for that route. Not confirmed: The dates, location and accepted items of the twice-yearly Event Recycling are not published on this page. Not confirmed: No limit is stated on how many weeks in a row the one-item allowance may be used, and no set-out rule specific to a bulky item is given.
  • Norcross' current rate schedule prices the cart and never prices a bulky item. The City of Norcross 2026-2027 Solid Waste Rate Schedule, for service rendered on or after September 1, 2026, sets residential service of one trash and one recycling cart serviced weekly at '$30.86 per month ($370.32 charged annually with property taxes)' for owners under 62, '$15.43 per month ($185.16 charged annually with property taxes)' for owners residing at the address aged 62 and older, and '$11.01 per month' for each additional cart. Commercial cart service is $30.51 monthly for one 95-gallon cart collected weekly. The schedule then runs through front-end-loading containers, cardboard-only recycling containers, roll-offs at a $70.30 per ton disposal charge and compactors, and closes with a single line under 'Other Charges': 'Trip Charge/Dry Run/Relocate/Delivery: $190.46 per service'. No bulk-item, bulky-waste, furniture, mattress or special-pickup charge appears anywhere in the schedule. The city separately notes that from September 1, 2026 residential and commercial waste collection charges rose by 4.7 percent in line with the Consumer Price Index for water, sewer and trash services under its Waste Management contract, and that the discounted senior rate is applied automatically to residents granted a Gwinnett County senior homestead exemption, for which the application deadline is April 1 each year. Source Not confirmed: Because the schedule sets no bulk-item charge, whether the one-item weekly bulky allowance is covered by the $30.86 monthly residential rate is not stated; the absence of a charge is not the same as the city saying the collection is free. Not confirmed: No charge is published for the 'bulky items not normally accepted' route the sanitation page points residents to.

What to check before you go

  • Say if the mattress is wet, stained, or has any sign of pests — that is the usual reason one is turned away.
  • Ask what the total will be. Box springs, stairs, and extra items are often charged separately.
  • Check you qualify. Many sites serve only residents of their own city or county.
